Flame Towers Baku City Azerbaijan skyline
Location Parliament Avenue, Baku
Height / Towers 182m / 3 Skyscrapers (Completed 2012)
Design Team HOK Architects

The Modern Emblem of the Land of Fire

The Flame Towers are a striking trio of flame-shaped skyscrapers that dominate the Baku skyline, standing as a testament to the modern rebirth of Azerbaijan. Designed by the renowned global architecture firm HOK and completed in 2012, this $350 million complex consists of three high-rise buildings, with the tallest reaching a height of 182 meters (597 feet). The shape of the towers represents flickering tongues of fire, directly paying homage to Azerbaijan's historic connection to fire—from its natural gas vents that burn spontaneously on the Absheron Peninsula to the ancient Zoroastrian fire-worshiping religion that once thrived in the region.

Innovative Facade Engineering & Nightly Light Shows

Each of the three towers serves a different purpose: Tower 1 (the tallest) holds luxury residential apartments, Tower 2 is occupied by the Fairmont Baku Hotel, and Tower 3 contains grade-A office spaces. The architectural structures are wrapped in custom glass curtain walls, but the true highlight is their lighting design. The facades are covered with more than 10,000 high-power LED luminaire displays integrated into the window mullions.

As night falls, the towers transform into a massive digital screen, playing a spectacular light show that is visible from almost anywhere in the city. The display shifts dynamically, showing flickering giant flames, a walking figure waving the Azerbaijani national flag, and waves of cool blue water. The show operates every evening, starting at dusk and running late into the night, attracting photographers from around the globe.

Best Viewpoints & Driving Tips

While the towers themselves are impressive, they are best viewed and photographed from a distance. The ultimate vantage point is Highland Park (Dagustu Park), which sits directly adjacent to the towers. The park features panoramic observation decks that line the hill, providing a perfect angle where the towers frame the Caspian Sea and the city below.

For those driving a rental car, you can reach Highland Park and the base of the Flame Towers by taking Parliament Avenue. There is a surface parking lot located near the entrance to the park and the parliament building, making it highly convenient to park your vehicle and walk along the scenic pathways. Renting a car in Baku ensures you can capture the best views of the Flame Towers by day and night entirely on your own schedule.
